As we all struggle with this, given the abuse of power and illegal actions at the federal level this creative and poignant article by Dr. Tamara Stevenson, The Policies, Practices, and Philosophies Formerly Known as DEI: What Prince Can Teach Us About Power and Reinvention is helpful to me, and I am hoping it will be helpful to you as well.
And if you are a Prince fan, something I share with Dr. Stevenson, her analogy will drive it home. She says, “Releasing the acronym does not equate to abandoning the work. It was never just about the name. It has always been about facilitating inclusive teaching, learning, and working environments that cultivate the robust and productive exchange of ideas…This backlash is not just an ending. It is a pivot point… An opportunity to liberate this work from compliance culture and symbolic gestures and to realign it with something more enduring: Values. Vision. Justice.”
Give it a read --it is brief and poignant. Then go have a dance break, song provided. Let’s Go Crazy.
Enjoy, be well and keep making it happen,
Kate
