Kate is guided by the words of jazz pianist and composer Eubie Blake of Baltimore, MD, who said, “Be grateful for luck. Pay the thunder no mind—listen to the birds. Don’t hate nobody.” This philosophy reflects her approach to both life and work.
An active community volunteer, Kate leads a weekly life skills club for middle school students. As a nature lover and trained hike leader, she enjoys exploring the outdoors.
She has lived in Baltimore City for over 20 years. Originally from Columbia, MD, Kate credits her hometown’s unique community for shaping her values and perspective.
Professionally, Kate has spent more than two decades in the nonprofit and government sectors, as a team member and leader, a board member, a board president, and for the past 15 years, as a consultant. She has worked with over 150 organizations, from tiny community nonprofits to large government agencies, from local initiatives to national organizations to political campaigns. She has supported leaders through strategic planning, large-scale events, succession, team crises, mergers, and moments of real uncertainty.
Kate listens at a deeper level to interpret needs, earns trust quickly, and brings a quality of care to her work that her clients feel.
Her background spans Social Work (BA), Nonprofit Management (MA), wellness counseling (certificate), emotional intelligence, organizational development and change management. She understands that the technical and human sides of organizational life are interconnected and this is where her work is focused.
In 2011, Kate founded KS Solutions Consulting. A skilled strategist, trainer and facilitator, she
focuses on people, planning and progress and is adept at developing innovative solutions, fostering team growth and driving sustainable change.
Prior to founding her consulting practice, Kate spent 15 years in senior leadership roles across organizations such as Business Volunteers Maryland, the Family League of Baltimore City, the Maryland Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism and the YMCA of Metro Atlanta.
Kate is trained in the Standards for Excellence program, a national initiative promoting ethical and effective nonprofit governance and operations.
